Earlier this month we worked with the Made In Greater Manchester project to train a team of Archive Research volunteers in how to use WordPress to blog. The Made in Greater Manchester project is a collaboration between archive services across Greater Manchester. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the project will develop a new online catalogue of local business records. It aims to bring these collections alive, engaging volunteers and new users in creating a set of collection catalogues and new digital resources that share information about business history in the area.
As part of this process, the Archive Researchers will be blogging about their experiences and unique finds along their research journey. We ran a day long training session with them to bring them up to speed with writing techniques, blogging etiquette and the technical skills needed for any would-be-blogger. Focusing on the WordPress platform, the workshop provided an opportunity for the team to create a voice stylesheet for their blog, practice writing blog posts and using this text to create multimedia blog posts! You can read more about it here.
We got some great feedback on the workshop, and were reminded of how great blogging can be as a way of communicating ideas and promoting projects… So we had an idea *a dangerous thing in our office*… And Blogging 101 was born!
Blogging is a great way to tell the world more about yourself and your business, as well as helping potential customers find you in search engines. If you want to start blogging but don’t know where to begin, or if you have an existing blog but want to learn how to use it more effectively, wehearttech C.I.C.’s Blogging 101 training day can help… And we promise not to bombard you with technical jargon!
Perfect for SMEs, charities, not-for-profits and sole traders, the workshop will provide an introduction to blogging in terms of writing techniques and the use of WordPress. Over the course of a full-day workshop, you will explore planning, researching and producing content for your blog, including tone of voice, structure, hook, audience and basic SEO writing skills. You will also learn how to use WordPress to create embedded media posts to ensure your blogs are interactive and engaging.
Although we use WordPress as the basis of our workshop, the skills you will build can be transferred to any blogging platform. So if your business already has a blog set up with different software, you will still find Blogging 101 useful.
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
The workshop will be facilitated by Hayley and Sarah from wehearttech C.I.C. who, between them, have more than 15 years of experience in teaching, tech, PR and digital marketing.
So, for just over £80.00 you’ll get a full day of learning about blogging, some laughs along the way, and refreshments and lunch. You can find out more and book your place here.
