Get Loud In Libraries – More Than Music!

At wehearttech C.I.C. we’ve been working with Get Loud in Libraries for nearly two years now (time flies when you’re having fun!) and we’ve been with them as they’ve organised some amazing gigs in libraries across the North West including Clean Bandit, Ezra Furman, Young Fathers, Gruff, Rhys, Rae Morris and more. But GILIL do so much more than loud ‘n’ live shows.

They’re committed to developing the next generation of talented techies with programmes developing young people’s sound and digital media skills – and this is where we come in. Our collaboration with Get Loud In Libraries sees us work with young people who gain real-world work experience across areas such as video production, sound engineering, interviewing, brand management, social media and music journalism.

Some of our previous work placement participants have had their say on the programme. Emily, 14, from St. Helens described working with GILIL and wehearttech C.I.C. as an “amazing experience. Lucy, also 14, from St. Helens, meanwhile, said that she had “gained confidence through interviewing the band members and members of the audience” and that she had “enjoyed taking photos and experiencing this type of work”.

As well as gaining useful, practical skills, the GILIL programme helps young people launch their careers in the media and music industries by helping them to acquire and impress relevant contacts. Training young digital producers to construct the promotional content for the gigs – videos, tweets, you name it! – is another aspect of GILIL that wehearttech C.I.C. works on. Part of that is interviewing top acts such as Blossoms, Nick Mulvey, Superfood and Thumpers for their Vimeo channel – which makes learning digital skills a lot more exciting than it is already!

After interviewing Rae Morris, Jess, 16, from Kendal told us, “I have learned about social media, photography and interview techniques. It is a unique opportunity and I want to continue to be part of the project”. We’ve also supported our young people in taking on behind-the-scenes rolls in events management which offers them the opportunity to learn more about customer service – all while seeing some amazing gigs in libraries. Sounds awesome, right? If you don’t believe us, check out what some of the digital producers had to say…

So while Get It Loud in Libraries love live music and are passionate about programming the best acts to play in local libraries, they also do so much more – with the help of wehearttech C.I.C. The work placements we are able to provide don’t have young people making cuppas. Instead they provide a rich educational experience that will give young people a launch pad into the media and music industries.

Speaking of cuppas, we’re off to make our own now (see, no young digital producers helping us there!), but you can find out more about GILIL and see what gigs they have coming up over on their website.
