Working with Liverpool Libraries we some Smart Materials workshops to engage children, young people and families in learning about STEM processes and ideas in creative ways. These workshops focuses on using smart materials combine with tradition craft practices and materials to create artistic pieces in response to a specific theme or topic. Smart materials react to changes in their environment. In essence, their properties can be changed by an external condition such as heat, light and other variable factors.
Whilst at the workshops, participants can create sun prints, 3D designs, UV paintings, crafty sculptures and e-textile creations, all whilst learning a little bit of STEM knowledge along the way. The success of these workshops have meant that they about to be rolled out into libraries across the North West, so watch this space!
